I come from a big family of eleven. When I was about five years old, we moved into a three bedroom semi-detached brick house that has a very big compound ( more than five thousand square feet, which I would relate here on this blog as My Childhood Garden ). All nine of us siblings ( I am the second youngest ), loved gardening a lot. Each of us siblings was assigned with a small plot of land inside our house compound by our parents to freely plant just any edibles or ornamental plants to our hearts desires. I remember planted a lot of flowering annuals like the Sunflowers, Marigolds, Zinnias, Japanese Roses ( Portulaca ), Cosmos, Button Flowers, Balsams, Periwinkles and many more. The soil was very fertile and the blooms that I got were all very large and beautiful. Back then, our garden was a playground of wonderful colour blooms here and there. Bees, birds, butterflies and dragon flies used to come, breed, feed, live, play and sing around our beautiful garden. Later in life when we were all busy with our school works and later on, our grown up lives, our garden slowly evolved into a mini fruit orchard, carpet grass field and lately, beautiful, white, sandy fruit orchard that requires less care. So many plants have grown in our garden all those years but the only plant that is still around after so many years is the rambutan tree which my mum loved the most. It bears the sweetest, most ' lekang ' rambutan fruits ever tasted. During her old age, my mum often sat under the rambutan tree every morning to enjoy the fresh breeze.
Gone are the days but my passion for gardening never ceased to stay. Recently I have bought a double storey linked house in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia as a vacation home not far from our old family home. It has a small backyard ( only twenty-two feet by eleven feet ) which I hope to transform into a beautiful, Small Backyard Garden.
Please do come and share my adventures, findings and knowledges, memories, joys, jokes, stories, ups and downs, and more for all that revolve around :-
1) my small backyard garden
2) my childhood garden
3) other people's garden
4) my trips to garden nurseries
5) public gardens I visited
6) my adventures to the wilds
7) plants I come across
